Emma Stein - Established Director

Prior to moving to Australia in 2003, Emma Stein had a strongly operational career, running businesses in the fuel distribution and energy retailing sectors. Her last UK role was as Managing Director for French utility Gaz de France's UK downstream operations.

She embarked on a career as a NED in Australia and has built up four directorships, across two listed (DUET and Arc Energy) and two public sector companies (Integral Energy and the Growth Centres Commission). She chairs 2 board sub-committees and sits on 4 board sub-committees as part of her NED work. In addition, each year she will do, typically 2 day, board strategy offsites with each of her boards and field visits.

Emma says that being effective as a board and as a board director is enormously challenging and draws continually on a combination of hard work, resourcefulness, smarts and good judgement. Working out what to seek to influence and how is key.
