Peta Seaton

LIFE BEFORE AND AFTER POLITICS

Having grown up wanting to be an archaeologist, Peta Seaton was sidetracked into television and advertising, and then nearly twenty years in politics, while still pursuing her academic passions.

Educated in the Solomon Islands, and Australia, Peta Seaton started her own small production business in the pioneering days of music videos, and then gained valuable business and project management experience as an in-house TV producer for Clemenger Sydney.

She joined the then NSW Opposition Leader Nick Greiner in 1987 in a combined research/media role, and commenced a political career that included a senior research and policy role to Premier Greiner, and election as the member for Southern Highlands in 1996.  Front bench responsibilities including Shadow Treasurer, Reform of Government, Planning, Infrastructure, Environment, Small Business, Insurance Regulation and Competition Policy underpinned her role in developing and advocating a public sector reform agenda for NSW and it’s Federal relationships.

Since the March 2007 election (when Peta did not stand for election), she has been awarded her PhD (University of Sydney).  She intends that the next phase of her career will build on her strategic, leadership, management and policy experience, and is investigating opportunities for company director roles.  Along with commencing the AICD company directors course, she is involved in ongoing project-based consultancy.
