Office for Women

A $50,000 grant from the Commonwealth Office for Women gave the Women on Boards program the impetus to increase its corporate profile and expand beyond NSW in 2004. It assisted WoB to host highly successful networking events in Canberra (2003), Brisbane, Tamworth and Melbourne (2004) and Perth and Sydney (2005). Rural women were bought into the program for the first time and a website developed. A follow-up grant of $20,000 was used to upgrade the functionality of the website, develop relationships with boards and their directors and to promote the program and a further $15,000 was granted to compile a list of boards and conduct national seminars.

The Australian Government Office for Women (OFW) is a policy advisory unit and a division of the Department of Family and Community Services in Australia. All of its work is founded on the goal of mainstreaming women's issues. This means working to ensure that a focus on women's experiences, issues or perspectives becomes everyone's business.
